Food That Causes Heartburn - What Foods Cause Heartburn In Your Life?

When heartburn occurs, it's a natural phenomenom for people to wish they hadn't consumed a specific type of food. Part of a good managemment process is avoiding foods that cause heartburn.

Most people will experience some form of heartburn at some stage. If you are suffering at least two episodes a week then it's time to get serious about reviewing your management process. There's a good chance there are certain foods which aren't palatable with you.

Rather than going through another "what if" experience, doesn't it make sense to review what types of food and drink you are consuming which seem to coincide with a heartburn attack.

Avoiding Certain Foods

It might surprise you to know that certain fruit groups make up those foods that cause heartburn. Citrus fruit is particularly a culprit. Most people would assume that would be lemons, oranges, and grapefruits and the juices and products made for them.

Tomatoes are also part of the fruit group which will again surprise many. Tomatoes are not a vegetable but a fruit. Cooked in many dishes from pasta to pizza, tomatoes greatly add to heartburn sufferer’s distress.

Other Foods To Consider As Possible Causes

Dairy products can play havoc with heartburn too. Milk is popular yet it can be a trigger. In the past, milk was popular for everything from sleeplessness to an upset stomach. Today the dairy group has been shown to be a food that causes heartburn. That means thinking again about that milkshake, or dollop of ice cream.

Consider cutting back on soda drinks. Soda pops can also be categorized into the food groups that cause heartburn. Various beverages that contribute to heartburn are coffee and tea, alcohol and of course the citrus drinks such as tomato, orange or grapefruit juice.

The bottom line is, most foods can cause heartburn. There are many sweets high in fats such as cakes, cookies and brownies can contribute to acidic conditions in the esophagus. Other foods that can causes heartburn are ground chuck, buffalo wings, spicy foods, spaghetti, onions, garlic and many others.

In the end, if you want to cut down the incidence of heartburn in your life then you need to make a conscious effort to identify what foods are the common factor when an attack occurs. Unless you do, then there is no point in continuing to say "what if I hadn't eaten it or drank it."
